Angels & The Sad State of Art

My wife and I are reading about angels right now, and it is truly awesome stuff, but I must confess a frustration of mine, and that is this: Why are there virtually no quality artistic renditions of the angels? Why are they either monsterish, wussy, wimpy, girly, or just plain artistically bad? It bothers me to see a pic of St. Michael the Archangel sporting a sword and armor only to look up at his face and see a girly looking image that doesn't really make me trust in his ability to protect us from Satan and all the evil spirits. These three pics I pulled together show it all. But check these out. The angels in the big pic look almost beastlike. The little frilly pink angel doesn't inspire me to pray to her for protection, and the best of these three, though manly-looking and all, makes me feel like I am looking at an angelic version of Mick Jagger or Steven Tyler! Anyway, it annoys me to no end how little there is out there in terms of good art. I am sure that the angels themselves, if they could get annoyed at us, would get annoyed at all the totally off-base attempts people have made to portray them, because in the end, it shows how clueless we are not only about the angels, but about the saints, about Heaven, and about God. Anyone seen any cheesy, wimpy looking Saint prayer cards? How about girly-looking Jesus ones? We need to start praying for the conversion of some really good pagan artists!
