A Great Moral Teacher???

"I am trying to prevent anyone saying the really foolish thing that people often say about [Jesus:] "I'm ready to accept Jesus as a great moral teacher, but I don't accept his claim to be God." That is the one thing we must not say. A man who was merely a man and said the sort of things Jesus said would not be a great moral teacher. He would either be a lunatic - on a level with a man who says he is a poached egg - or else he would be the devil of hell. You must make your choice. Either this man was, and is, the Son of God: or else a madman or something worse. You can shut him up for a fool, you can spit at him and kill him as a demon; or you can fall at his feet and call him Lord and God. But let us not come up with any patronising nonsense about his being a great human teacher. He has not left that open to us. He did not intend to." C.S. Lewis Mere Christianity

From the Florida Bishops

Mrs. Schiavo is a defenseless human being with inherent dignity, deserving of our respect, care and concern. Her plight dramatizes one of the most critical questions we face: To be a truly human society, how should we care for those we may not be able to cure?

In our past statements concerning Terri Schiavo, we have made it clear that there should be a presumption in favor of providing nutrition and hydration even by artificial means as long as it is of sufficient benefit to outweigh the burdens involved to the patient. We reiterate our plea that Mrs. Schiavo continues to receive all treatments and care that will be of benefit to her...

Simply put, we are called to provide basic means of sustenance such as food and water unless they are doing more harm than good to the patient... As long as they effectively provide nourishment and help provide comfort, we should see them as part of what we owe to all who are helpless and in our care...

We pray that Terri Schindler Schiavo's family and friends, and all who hold power over her fate, will see that she continues to receive nourishment, comfort and loving care.

Hand & Foot - Not To Be Missed

If you're looking for an awesome card game that my wife and I have been getting into recently, and one which my fam back home loves as well, check out the game Hand & Foot. It has a lot of rules to remember, and there are variations, but it is an enjoyable time. Added bonus: Unlike tv, no exposure to trashy shows and commercials, you can actually converse with those you play with, you can listen to some good music in the background, and you actually use your brain. If you get really into it, it is a minor aerobic workout, too. I guess it could be a weight workout as well if you pick up too many cards...
